Common Equipment Used During Coal Mining

Mining industry has many associated risks, especially for the workers on site. Therefore, it is important for all the employees to take proper training and gain knowledge related to the machines and equipment used in operations which are designed to improve efficiency and reduce human effort.

Depending on the task to be performed( mining below the ground, mining above the ground, mining gold, coal, crude oil or metal), there are many types of mining equipment that are used on the site. Excavators, drilling machines, crushing and grinding equipment are some of the most common machines used. Whether you belong to the industry or outside it, here are a few machines that you must know about:

Draglines:

These are huge machines used for moving for segregating debris from the upper surface and exposing the underlying coal or mineral deposits. One of the largest machines built till date, these are built at a particular location, dismantled at another and travelled to the required destination. Hundreds of tons of materials can be removed in a single go using these machines.

Excavators and Drills:

These are the machines used to dig the land and remove soil, sand etc. In critical working conditions, these machines need to be component optimized. This implies that they need to be specifically based on nonlinear, static linear and dynamic analysis. Drills are used to dig holes into the mines. The dug holes are then filled with explosive charges. Chunks of earth are blasted away when exploded.

Roof Bolters and Long Wall Miners:

Roof bolters are large machines used to force bolts into the roofs. These are hydraulically powered and are mostly used to fix tunnel roofs and prevent them from collapsing while the workers are working inside. Long wall miners are used to remove huge rectangular chunks of coal.

Rock Dusters and Continuous Miners:

All the well-established companies such as the KCT coal by KCT Group consider it important to prevent fire at all times. Rock duster is used for the purpose which is an equipment to spray inert mineral dust over highly flammable coal dust. It is a means to prevent accidental fires and explosions. Continuous miners were first used in fast track mining activities. These machines have an array of teeth that are made from tungsten carbide and rotate. These are used to scrape coal from coal beds. In dangerous mines, robotic continuous miners are used.
