5 Major Industries that Heavily Depend Upon Coal

Besides fuel generation, coal has a plethora of applications that are essential for a number of industries. This carbon-rich fossil-fuelled the growth of the industrial revolution back in the 15th century and continues to be the backbone of 90% industries to date.

Though this non-renewable source of energy has reached the verge of extinction in many areas but because of industries’ heavy dependence upon it, it is being vehemently used, which is a concern in itself. Till the time renewable source of energy such as solar, wind and Hydro energy fully develop and mature, coal will be primarily used to operate industries around the world.

Unfortunately, there are only a few industries including the likes of KCT Group that abide by the rules of carefully carrying out all the procedures and making judicious use of the fossils that they are putting to use.

Coal is the lifeline of all the major industries around the world and here we mention a few of them that solely depends on its usage.

Electricity Production: Thermal coal or steam coal is used in most power stations for electricity production. This procedure requires coal combustion to create energy and in-turn to produce electricity. KCT coal, a business vertical of industrial giant KCT group is responsible for electricity production in most power stations in India. The good thing is that they have access to some of the most remote locations in India.

Steel Industry: This is the second largest industry after electricity which requires coal as raw material to carry out procedures.

Cement Industry: Cement generation requires a large amount of energy for its production. The powdered form of coal is used to produce a substance called concrete which is an essential part of cement generation.

Paper and Aluminium Industry: Perhaps, it is only coal that can provide a large amount of energy that this industry requires for fuel generation.

Chemical and Pharma Industry: Now, this may come as a surprise but pharma industry heavily depends upon coal. Several chemical products are obtained as by-products of coal; the most famous of them is the coal tar which is heavily used in the chemical industry. Other important products obtained from coal are phenol, creosote oil, and benzene.
